Doctor´sDiary

Prag

On monday did I travel to Prague, to visit Anna, who´s studying at the Charles University for two semesters. It took 12 hours to get there, because the train had a delay of 90 minutes in Berlin.

It was really boring to wait there. But I was afraid to leave the platform, because the train might have come earlier. It didn´t. Thanks.
When I had finally arrived in Prague, Anna was waiting for me and we walked home. She lives in a flat with a french guy, a girl from the US and a girl from Belarus.  We made dinner, even though it was really late and went to bed. I was tired from the long trip and she was tired because she had not been sleeping well the night before.

On tuesday did we start the "touristprogramm", but first did we go to a vegan restaurant with some of Anna´s friends. The restaurant "Beas" is hidden away in a backyard, you pay the food by weight. 100 gr are 19 CZK, if I remember it right. That´s really cheap for eating out, especialy in the city centre. It´s a selv-service buffet and the food is inspired by indian dishes.

After that did we go to the Jan Saudek exhibition, which is quiet close to the restaurant. The pictures were quiet...interesting!? Jan Saudek is the most famous czech photographer, as I was told.

We also walked through the city centre to the famous Charles Bridge.

And then did we take the bus and metro back home. Once you get it, the transporting system is quiet easy to use.

In Anna´s neighbourhood there is the Palác Akropolis. There is a bar downstairs which seems to be open all week. We went there to drink czech beer and to dance.

Wednesday did Anna show me the castle. It´s a really huge complex, the  largest coherent castle complex in the world actually.

From the castle did we walk over to the czech copy of the Eiffeltower.  It is located on a hill and together with this hill is it as high as the original in Paris. We payed both 50 CZK and walked up all the stairs to the top. From there did we have a great view all over the town.

Afterwards did we have dinner at a restaurant, I tried a traditional czech dish. It is called svíčková and has it´s own wikipedia entry.

We spent the evening with Sabrina, a friend of Anna´s, at her place. She has a tv, which Anna hasn´t, and we watched "Doctor´s Diary", a german tv series. Sabrina showed us a very funny video on youtube.

Thursday did I mostly spend on my own. Anna had to study at the library and so did I try to find the grave of Kafka. I made it to the cemetery all right, I believe... But I didn´t find the grave.

The tv tower is quiet close to the cemetery and I walked there, so I could take pictures of the babys on it. They are made by czech artist David Cerny.

I also found some streetart next to the tower. I found quiet a lot all over the town.

I had dinner with Sabrina and some others at Beas once again, it was still very good. The rest of the day did I walk trough the streets and went shopping in the huge shopping centre - called Palladium. I bought shoes.

In the evening did I meet Anna and we went to see an opera at the national theater. "The magic flute" that was. I always wanted to see it and I liked it, but I had no idea that it was so racist and sexist. There were a lot of american students there, educational trip maybe, and now they probably all think that europeans are racists. I mean it´s from 1791, the stage design was very modern and if you don´t know that it is that old...

After the opera had finished did we eat at another vegan restaurant, with a very cool interior and good food. It is called Maitrea. I ordered nachos with pesto of sun-dried tomatoes. And we shared a home-made brownie with walnuts and cranberries, which is served with strawberry-mint sauce. It was really good.

Anna showed me two bars as well, the Chapeau Rouge and the Propaganda. Both are free to entre and mostly visited by tourists, since they are in the city centre.

On friday did Anna stay at home, to write an essay, and I went to the national museum. The entrance is 100 CZK for students and if you go there, you´ll find a lot of...stones. And stuffed animals of all kind. And one of the biggest whale skeletons of all Europe. It´s a female fin whale and quiet impressive. Right now there is an exibition about ancient chzech legends. It´s child friendly and interesting to look at. But it was the only part of the exibtion which was in English as well.
If I´m right the museum will soon be closed for five years, to be renovated.

We ended my trip to Prague with a party, Anna and her flatmates invited some of their friends and her flatmates friends, who arrived that friday, were with us. We played drinking games from diffenrent countries, as we were people from different countries and I did spend my last money on the entry at Lucerna. There was a 80´s/90´s music video party.

We got home at 4 o´clock in the morning, I went straight to bed, slept until 05:30 and packed my things as quiet as I could. I let myself out of the flat and took the tram to the central station were I waited for my train until it arrived.
I had a compartment for my own and tried to sleep, but I couldn´t. I looked at the sunrise and the river Vltava instead.

When the train stopped in Dresden a father and his sons came into my compartment. They were playing with this playstation portable thing, a racing game, the father as enthusiastic as the children.

When I got home, there was snow.

Party

Fotos will follow.
